Initial Comment:
For example, "sudo \rm /" <Tab> gives me a bunch of warnings:
bash: compopt: -o: option requires an argument
compopt: usage: compopt [-o|+o option] [-DE] [name ...]
bash: compopt: -o: option requires an argument
compopt: usage: compopt [-o|+o option] [-DE] [name ...]
bash: compopt: -o: option requires an argument
compopt: usage: compopt [-o|+o option] [-DE] [name ...]
bash: compopt: -o: option requires an argument
...
The warnings are getting printed until you hit ^C

The problem is fixed in commit:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=bash-completion/bash-completion.git;a=commit;h=2472fad5de03ef91864926240a709b3f2b72a173
But bash-completion still can't handle notations like "\rm". May be it should be fixed later.
