Sorry, I didn't think all the way.  You need to set

DEB_DESTDIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/ksynaptics

$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp would be setting if you don't write this.  (Your missing 
binaries are still in the debian/tmp directory.)

$(pwd) does not have a special meaning in make.

Probably debian/tmp/* then, or you need to give a --sourcedir option to 
dh_install.
