[buildd-tools-devel] Unresponsive mouse in X when compiling with schroot

Hello,
I regularly compile software with schroot in an uptodate sid chroot.
The process works and the binary behaves as expected, but during the
compilation time I cannot use X as the mouse responds very sluggish,
after a while mouse response in X is almost zero, i.e. moving the
mouse results in several seconds (getting longer and longer during the
compilation time) of "nothing happens" and then finally the mouse
jumps to a new destination. On the console, the mouse behaves still
fine (using gpm). Also the text input works still fine, i.e. I have no
problems focusing windows by keyboard and typing/scrolling in them.

If I compile the same software outside the chroot (in stable, using
fakeroot, if that matters) the systems is still usable (the load is
noticable but does not prevent working, i.e. the delays are noticable,
but way below a second). In both cases the system load is about 1.

I've been seeing that for quite some time now (I don't know which
(kernel) update caused this) and I tried to figure out where this delay
comes from, but to no avail. Since my kernel is self compiled, I probably
missed a switch.

Is there any experience in your team what setting might cause this? Is
there some way to "renice" the schroot (I don't mind longer
compilation times) so that the load on the system is reduced hence
keeping the mouse under X usable?

Thanks for any hints/suggestions. If you need any further information
do not hesitate to ask.

Greetings

            Helge

P.S. I use Lenny (though the problem was present in Etch also) on x86_64.
