yes it was. It was bug #769289 which is fixed now.

It seems that the last time I ran sbuild-createchroot was before that bug was
fixed in March 2015 and thus I never got a commonly mounted /build directory in
my sbuild builds.

Sorry for the confusion but it's solved now :)
