This is true for most cases I think. However, depending on the particular
styleguide of the project/company you work for, sometimes the 80 columns
are a *must*.

I agree that we shouldn't try to enforce the 80 columns-rule by all means,
instead we simply should do our best to apply it where it makes sense.

IMHO, the JS code needs a lot of cosmetic and functional cleanups, but I
suppose this should be done when there's a branch for it.
