Burnspeed is now pretty good, pretty much max for this drive for CD's and single layer DVD's but for DVD+DL i can only do 4x on a 6x drive and 8x disks. Trying 6x gives me a coaster after 1mb written with buffer under run error.<br>

<br>
Some drives can stand molestation, some don't.<br>
Some Linux distros work for weeks with<br>
hald-addon-storage activated before the first<br>
coaster happens.<br>

One can try to provoke it by performing<br>
during the ongoing burn run:<br>

while date ; do sleep 3 && dd if=/dev/sr0 bs=2048 count=1 of=/dev/null ; done<br>

(loop to be ended by pressing Ctrl+C)<br>

We did notice the influence of firmware changes.<br>
I could now imagine that the drives get less<br>
stable by allowing some gesture which Windows<br>
insists to perform.<br>

What about DVD burn speed ?<br>

(That is not a typical effect of collision.<br>
We would need high frequency molestation for<br>
that. Therefore my thought about mad ACPI.)<br>
