[Debconf-devel] Bug#400316: debconf: please add possibility for input sanitazion

Hi,

most maintainer scripts take whatever was delivered by debconf
verbatim as input for system configuration. This is like asking for
trouble as soon as non-ascii characters are entered there.

I would find it nice if debconf would support a regexp check that it
would apply against whatever was entered by the user and reject any
input that wouldn't match the regexp.

If the default were .*, this could be enabled by default without
breaking backwards compatibility. Only a new optional field would have
to be introduced to the debconf template.

One bug that could be easily solved by enhancing debconf is #400294.
