Fwiw, the GNOME maintained packages Simon was talking basically all
override libexecdir to use \${prefix}/lib/$SRCPKG atm.

This was/is the default in cdbs. IIRC dh also used that in the past but
changed libexecdir to be the same as libdir in compat 9, see
#541458.
Apparently there are a few packages using pkglibexecdir although I have
never encountered one myself.
