Sure, but you need to understand why that disappeared.  There is a
section at the top of menu.lst where you add parameters to append to
each auto-generated kernel stanza below.  The comments in the file
instruct you in this matter.  If you edited the kernel stanzas
directly, then the next time update-grub ran (e.g. on the next kernel
upgrade) you would lose any edits you made there.  So look at that file
carefully and read the instructions in it.  Pay particular attention to
'kopt'.
