Here is a list of places people will want to visit - with what to see
in each place.

All the places are usually known as pilgrimage centers for Jains /
Hindus. I am trying to highlight the secular aspects where possible.

Moodbidri - the thousand pillar temple. (count'em if you can).

Karkala - Gomateshwara statute - tallest monolith statue of Bahubali -
one among 4 such statues in Karnataka.

Other 2 statues are in nearby towns of Dharmasthala and
Venur. (the 4th is far away sharavanabelagola).

Dharmasthala - Museum of Vintage objects and cars collection of
Veerandra Heggade - you will need to ascertain that is open
          though.

Udupi - Actually Manipal - to visit this olace:-

         http://www.indiaheritagevillage.org/index1.html

The place started off with a certain Mr Shenoy building a
house from discarded parts of demolished old houses. This
house was apparently was taken over by the Pai group of
Manipal, who with their financial support, have been able to
build a more comprehensive cultural village.

Some networking would be required to gain entry though.

Udupi to maravanthe beach if 50Km; Marvanthe to Murudeshwar
is another 80 KM. Karkala to Udupi is 40 KM. 170 KM in all.

Kudremukh - I was thinking this is the place of abandoned iron ore mines.

But it is also a wildlife (tiger) sanctuary, and there is
a dam (Lakya dam) and source for two rivers - Tunga and
Bhadra, which later on join to form - you gussed it -
            Tungabhadra.

Hanumanagundi aka Suthanabbe falls on way from Karkala. :-D

It is hardly 48 / 50 KM from Karkala.

Mysore - appears to be 80 odd km from Karkala. Full day sightseeing at
         Mysore.

Take your pick. The real job is scheduling an itenary, picking out
the places to visit.

The real places to see would be the road side scenery on the various
ghat roads you will be travelling. Keep your SLRs ready to shoot. I
mean the cameras - not the guns.

(OT for the post; On topic for the list)

Too bad we do not have a proper LUG / FSUG @ Mangalore / Udupi.

Else, they could have arranged visits by the DDs to various colleges -
Manipal Institute of Technology aka MIT (!!), NIT, Surathkal (formerly
Regional Engineering College),
