It turned out the problem with illustrator is due to an empty
libpetsc3.1 package on kfreebsd-* archs:

  http://packages.debian.org/sid/libpetsc3.1

generating errors like:

  update-alternatives: warning: skip creation of /usr/lib/libpetsc.so
because associated file /usr/lib/libpetsc.so.3.1 (of link group petsc)
doesn't exist.

Reassigning to petsc.
