[Debian-sponsors-discuss] Why do companies and individuals support Debian financially?

I don't necessarily see that these two go together. I think "Good will -
charity" is one potential reason, while the "worthy cause" is another
one. I strongly believe that there are a lot of companies that see
Debian as an important piece of the Linux market, although not exactly
depending on it. They might prefer it, though.
