"A bit to soon" sounds very euphemistic in my book. IMNSHO Omega would
have been interesting if there had been proper documentation say 5 years
ago. But today I don't see much prospect in Omega as a user tool. It
probably is still interesting as a research tool, though. And, eg,
Omega's engine for arabic typesetting will be included in luaTeX.

I vaguely remember threads on the XeTeX list concerning vertical
typesetting. I cannot say much about it, though.

Forgetting about Omega and concentrating on things that are available or
at least very likely to be available (ie XeTeX and luaTex) is a good
idea to reduce the amount of grey hair. ;-)
