I had to try playing with things. I've pushed a separate branch
"hw-generate-expressions" with a proposal for another scanning strategy
that generates suitable/unsuitable tag lists.

I don't know if the one I propose does the job also for the tasks you
had in mind; however they could both go alongside, sharing the hardware
detection backend.
