Thank you useful pointer (to long discussion). I got a bit lost in
there. What is needed to finally have this field (the version that has
been implemented) documented in the copyright file format doc?

comes from. Is it part of policy and thus a patch aginst debian-policy
is needed?

Yes, but has to be in the header paragraph, not the Files paragraph,
and there can only be one of it (two in the header is a syntax error,
one in header and more in other paras: the others get ignored).

But yes these 4 lines is about all that is needed.
