If you mean to say that we have decided to not use DNS then I disagree.

I believe we have shown interest in *both* DNS-independency features and 
DNS-dependent ones.

As an example, Diaspora will need DNS to reach Facebook. :-P

I similarly want OpenID for me and my friends to take control of 
identity handling for some existing central services.

Eben made several talks. If you are referring to the one at Debconf10, I 
do not recall him suggest in that talk to abandon DNS, but to...

  * move from central services to privately controlled services
  * throw _existing_ tools together - i.e. do what Debian is good at
  * add central-to-private bridging tools like Diaspora when available

Asterisk, which Eben emphasized, also needs DNS.


I certainly am interested in relaxing dependency on all things central, 
including DNS.  But it takes time to get there - the p2p tools need to 
mature, and I want my friends with me in the new free net before I turn 
my back on the old central one.
