[Freedombox-discuss] Launch of an Open Wireless Movement in the near future?

wow, I thought the call to action would be an appeal for peer-to-peer wifi
mesh projects, but it's actually something a lot simpler:

they argue that everybody should simply take the password of their wifi
network.

configure your router to give your own mac address priority over guests.
other than that, sharing your wifi is the responsible thing to do.

and they appeal to people who know how to design a protocol that would be
secure (encrypting the wireless traffic between your laptop and your
router), but otherwise open to anyone who is maybe in a car stopped on a
corner looking up directions, or on a bench outside microblogging about how
nice your street is.

i think this is a brilliant idea, and it's the first i hear of this
proposal. does anybody on this list know how you could do the encryption of
wifi traffic without setting a password? Then help the EFF make this. Would
it be possible in software? just ssh tunnel to your router, so that you
don't have to lock down your wifi?
