It's already been done, in South Africa, and the bandwidth over 50Km
exceeded the bandwidth of the local 'broadband'. Pigeons aren't very fast
but one of those cards packs a lot of data. For a real Tahrir square
situation this actually isn't such a bad solution - apart from the problem
of getting the pigeons to the square in the first place. Once released a
homing pigeon will not be easy to distinguish from the wild pigeons which
hang around in public spaces in many cities, so interrupting or firewalling
the packets would not be easy.
