Looks like a cool project.  Identity as a URL is the the way to go I
think, facebook are slowly taking over the social web with this
strategy.  However there's a group of people that evangelize email
address is the only identity.  It sometimes turns into a bit of a
religious war :)

Freedombox will hopefully have a BIG advantage of people hosting their
own web server.

You may want to look at the foafpress project which is along the same lines?

I'm thinking about how to store social data in couchDB too and provide
a rest API, that seems like a cool idea.  I think json-ld is the way
to go.

How are you getting on with tornado and backbone?
