Just for your information - The Raspberry Pi platform has release all the graphics source code so that the whole system can be built from source.  NO binary blobs necessary.

I wonder if the platform being used for the base hardware platform for Freedom Box will be able to take advantage of this?

The hardware support is for armhf on the V6 hardware level.
They have a fully working Debian port (software floating point) and a Raspbain port (hardware floating point).  Platform type is asmhf in the build tree.
