wow, I thought the call to action would be an appeal for peer-to-peer wifi mesh projects, but it's actually something a lot simpler:<div><br></div><div>they argue that everybody should simply take the password of their wifi network.</div>
<div><br></div><div>configure your router to give your own mac address priority over guests. other than that, sharing your wifi is the responsible thing to do.</div><div><br></div><div>and they appeal to people who know how to design a protocol that would be secure (encrypting the wireless traffic between your laptop and your router), but otherwise open to anyone who is maybe in a car stopped on a corner looking up directions, or on a bench outside microblogging about how nice your street is.<br>
<br></div><div>i think this is a brilliant idea, and it's the first i hear of this proposal. does anybody on this list know how you could do the encryption of wifi traffic without setting a password? Then help the EFF make this. Would it be possible in software? just ssh tunnel to your router, so that you don't have to lock down your wifi?</div>

</div>Sure, but they overlap in interesting ways. A plug computer with<br>
Wi-Fi could easily do both. In fact, having read the EFF piece on<br>
what they are trying to achieve, Id say it is obviously something<br>
that any Freedom Box that does wireless routing at all should<br>
support.<br>

Almost certainly not in the first FB release, though, since the<br>
necessary wireless protocol is not yet developed. However, it<br>
is quite definitely worth adding as a long term goal.<br>
