I recently installed smartmontools and am using smartd to monitor the S.M.A.R.T. status of my hard drives.  I really like it, but I don't need to know every time the temperature changes one degree on one of the drives.

I realize that one could probably configure smartd to not monitor the hard drive temperature, however if it got really hot, one would probably like to know.  (Also, configuring smartd is a little cryptic, so if logcheck could smartly (no pun intended) ignore little things like this out-of-the-box, it'd be nice.)  Here is a sample (I think the "194" is the code for temperature messages, like "200 OK" in HTTP):

smartd: Device: /dev/hda, SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 29 to 27

According to <http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/temperature.html>, the maximum temperature for a newer Seagate drive is 60 degrees C, and the normal operating range is 5-50 degrees C.  Therefore, I recommend that logcheck ignore the temperature changes unless they exceed that range.  :)
