I do not have an answer to your question about minicom/runscript.
However, have you considered using Kermit, specifically C-Kermit,
instead of minicom?  Kermit scripting/automation is well documented
including examples.  If you do need to ask a human for help, I expect
that Frank da Cruz of the Kermit Project will gladly help you (via
electronic mail) like he did help me when I began using Kermit 95
(C-Kermit for Windows) in year 2014.
