I don't think any of the developers have access to a Solaris 8 system,
so we may need your help testing the possible fixes for this problem.

Can you please gzip and mail the config.log files generated by
./configure on Solaris 8 and 10 to the list? (If the attachments total
more than 40 kB, just mail them to me off-list and I can post the
relevant excerpts.)
