I just wanted to chime in here to say that getting these TrippLite USB UPS's
supported under a NUT driver would be fantastic! They are simple,
inexpensive UPS's (under $100 for 1000VA at Costco) and it would be quite
the "deal of the year" to be able to buy these units so cheaply and monitor
them directly via Linux.
I already have 5 of these units and have "usable" monitoring setup using a
Windows "Master" monitor pc (actually plugged into the USB port of one of
the UPS's) and several Linux "remote shutdown" listeners (a feature
Tripplite supported under Linux before version 12). However, this
"solution" is getting dated, doesn't work under 64 bit kernels and
Tripplite's software is really really horrible (my dog could code better
software). Thus compatibility under Linux using USB cables (since Tripplite
doesn't make anymore serial units on the low end) is greatly needed.
Tripplite's OMNIVS1000 models (which are the ones I own) have very simple
status (3 modes only): 1) On Utility Power 2) On Battery 3) Low Battery.
That's it, so it should be relatively easy to see these on a USB sourced
So please, please, please, please finish the TrippLite Compatibility under
the next release of the NUT USB/HID Ups Driver!!!
