Thank you very much for the patch.  After applying your patch, newhidups & upsd ran successfully.  The output of upsc is as follow:

I then turned off the main switch & then ran upsc again.  Even the UPS was on battery, the output of upsc remained the same.  I was hopping at least one of the values would dropped to a negative value.  What should I do next?  Thanks.
