This is a known problem that is mentioned in the manual page 'man 8 megatec'.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean here. Where did you add  
this delay?

Known problem too. Many vendors use this protocol (or something that  
is similar enough to be understood by the megatec driver) without  
fully implementing it.

- the output of 'upsc'
- what you did to make the UPS shutdown
