I'm indeed leading NUT, but the preferred support way is through the
mailing list, so that other can answer or be aware of an issue and its
resolution...

ah, Slack! my first (and so oldish now) run into the Linux world.

you have an installed version of libupsclient that is conflicting during
compilation.
Either uninstall NUT prior to the build, or simply remove / rename
libupsclient*so in /usr/local/ups/lib

BTW, are you maintaining Slack packages?
