you've probably answered your own question here ;-)

Solis 1.5 are actually APC Smart UPS. Thus, it's very likely to be APC
serial protocol, and not Solis anymore (Ie, as supported by the NUT solis
driver).

AFAICT, "newer" (since ~3 years) APC unit using the microlink for serial
communication are not supported anywhere.
Binary protocol, not documented, nor reverse engineered (yet).
