because probably an UPS port ( or even RS232-to-USB adapter ) is
cheaper to implement than a LAN port ( & everything associated
with it, like IP stack, SNMP and so on )</blockquote>

A LAN port is also an enterprise feature and companies don't like
their lesser expensive products competing with the enterprise stuff.<br>
