[Parted-maintainers] Bug#481435: parted: cp refuses to read from partitions mounted read-only

Package: parted
Version: 1.7.1-5.1
Severity: normal

when using parted to copy a partition, if the source partition
is mounted read-only parted will refuse to perform the operation
with the message, "Error: Partition xxx is being used. You must
unmount it before you modify it with Parted."

The error message itself is a bit misleading since no instruction
has been given to modify the source partition. Still, reading
from a partition mounted read-only is perfectly safe. Parted
further lacks a way to override this warning, making this
operation impossible to perform since it immediately aborts
the cp.
