 I've shuffled your changes around so that the fixes are in the same
 commit introducing the change; see the branch "profile-rebased" which
 is exactly the same changes as yours, but some commits have been merged
 together.  If that's ok with you, perhaps we can replace "profile" with
 "profile-rebased"?
