Looks OK, apart from a useless use of cat :) Thanks.

This is already #416968, merging.  See also #510984.

This may need one or two rounds in experimental to make sure the builds
don't fail outright.

It would be good to turn warnings on too, not sure if we should aim for
aborting on those.
