shows
    W dpkg-buildflags-missing LDFLAGS 115 (of 125) missing (kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386)

This very probably comes from hints/gnukfreebsd.sh,
which overwrites lddlflags:

   . ./hints/linux.sh
   
   # Configure sets these where $osname = linux
   ccdlflags='-Wl,-E'
   lddlflags='-shared'
