I don't see this on sid (amd64):
% for i in $(seq 1 100); time perl run_tests.pl
[..]
perl run_tests.pl 0.08s user 0.01s system 98% cpu 0.093 total
perl run_tests.pl 0.15s user 0.00s system 98% cpu 0.158 total
(These are the fastest and the slowest of the 100 runs.)
