when I added those monitoring scripts, I was just starting to learn python... 
so I wrote them in bash, to have results fast. And I found it logical, to make 
the master monitor the slave. But sure, the slave(s) can also monitor 
themselves. (Up to a certain degree...)

I absolutly appreciate moving functionality from bash scripts to the python 
"daemons".
