 This is due to our patch which forces the loglevel at the syslog API
 level; 1.0.8 added this internal flag to change loglevel, and our patch
 now breaks this.

 I think we can now drop this patch; I've sent it upstream, so if
 upstream considers it to be more elegant than a series of ifs, they are
 fine to merge it and revert the ifs.
