It has always been that upon leaving alsamixer by hitting the escape
key, one sees no reaction for a second or two, until finally the
screen is cleared and we are back at the prompt.

Therefore I would upon receiving the keystroke, print some message
e.g., "quitting..." so the user is not left wondering if his keystroke
was received while alsamixer is shutting down.

This bug report is totally useless without an accompanying tested patch.
