Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.13-3
Severity: normal

The audio device described by lspci below needs the following in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base:

options snd-hda-intel model=ref

Otherwise sound recording through the microphone jack doesn't work.

This is the lspci entry:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

The machine in question is a Fujitsu-Siemens P7120. The driver should
probably auto-detect the particular model of this chipset, but
apparently it doesn't. The above options line fixes the recording.
