No, I was on vacation.
So, the problem is obvious. It's not 1.0.18 vs 1.0.18a as I wrote before.
It's 1.0.18.dfsg vs 1.0.18a.dfsg, which does fail.

zsh: exit 1     dpkg --compare-versions 1.0.18a.dfsg-1 gt 1.0.18.dfsg-1,

We could try doing 1.0.18.dfsg.a, but it's not good looking either.
