Hello,

Today I built a completely module-free kernel, with the intention of
switching my system over to using absolutely no kernel modules. When I went
to uninstall module-init-tools, dpkg presented an error:

# dpkg --purge module-init-tools
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of module-init-tools:
 linux-sound-base depends on module-init-tools (>= 3.2.1).
 powermgmt-base depends on module-init-tools.
 kernel-package depends on module-init-tools (>= 0.9.10).
 alsa-base depends on module-init-tools (>= 3.2.1).
 alsa-utils depends on module-init-tools.
 oss-compat depends on module-init-tools | modutils | hurd; however:
  Package module-init-tools is to be removed.
  Package modutils is not installed.
  Package hurd is not installed.
dpkg: error processing module-init-tools (--purge):
 dependency problems - not removing
Errors were encountered while processing:
 module-init-tools

I was surprised to see that. Could you elaborate on this dependency? What
problems might occur without module-init-tools?

Thanks,
Matthew Lockner
