Subject: alsa-base: Newest alsa incorrectly lists sound hardware
Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.16-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I recently reinstalled Lenny because the system started to show cracks of all my tweaking =) . I did a reinstallation
through preseed (logs and files can be send at request) and everything seems to work fine. After the installation,
everything works except for sound. I figured out it has to do with how the cards are listed in which order. By
default, every program grabs card 0 (-c 0). However, do to a bug (?) my MIDI card is listed as first soundcard (which
is quite stupid if you ask me...). Every program now tries to play sound through my MIDI (he doesn't like that).
Every program failes. For example:
alsamixer
No mixer elems found

BUT:
alsamixer -c 1
<shows expected output :) >

The second card is the soundcard which can play normal sound. So it seems that alsa incorrectly lists the sound
hardware in my computer. (NOTE: Sound worked out of the box before!). And no, I did *not* mess with the alsa
configuration :)

-- Package-specific info:
--- Begin additional package status ---
Gewenst=(U)Onbekend/Installeren/Remove/Purge/Hold
