Hi John,
first off: sorry for the delay.
I have been busy for a while and I have been hoping to see a new
audacious version (or Debian revision) uploaded to unstable (or even to
experimental) in order easily test the change...

Anyway, now I managed to successfully rebuild audacious/2.1-1 after
applying the patch you pointed out.

More precisely: I downloaded the Debian source package for
audacious/2.1-1, extracted its content (with dpkg-source -x) and
applied the changeset a2c4836c6453 (with slight manual adjustments).
After rebuilding the Debian binary packages and installing them, I
tested audacious.

Test results: I am still able to reproduce the bug, unfortunately.

I think I found a repeatable way to reproduce the bug:

 * press the play button
 * _while_ audacious is waiting for a network connection to be
established or is buffering the network stream, move the mouse so
that the mouse arrow passes over the (rolled up) main player window
   and then goes away

As soon as the main player window gets or loses the focus, it
disappears. The window re-appears as soon as audacious begins to
actually play the network stream.

P.S.: During the tests, I also reproduced some segfaults (bug #468926),
the rolled-up-playlist problem (bug #516592), and the confile-messing
problem (bug #471394). Hence, the above BTS commands...
