I've reported this upstream, together with my proposed addition to the
FAQ:

"Please also remember that File daemons with later versions than the
Director and Storage daemons are not supported and can result in
authorization errors."

I've also noted your suggestion that the user will be warned in case of
incompatible versions of different daemons.
