I feel that figures help in getting papers accepted, though I admit that it is 
not utterly needed to get the message across.

And the nineth page is full. Shocking. Can we do multicol{2} ? I could 
possibly shrink the figure a bit, but the references will remain that 
crowded.

The history. Clear vote from my side.

One line we can spare where there is the "(Intel) x86 and (AMD) amd64" 
explained, which is irritating since amd64 also works on the new Intel boxes 
and the x86 also runs on the AMDs. ... 

... the figure I made about 1cm shorter. No linebreak of interest that follows 
suit though.

I have to run for a seminar now...talk you in an hours time again.
