[Bug 109809] boinc client quit communicating with manager after installing kubuntu-desktop onto xubuntu 6.10

Public bug reported:

I installed Xubuntu 6.10 recently.  Everything works ok, then decided to
take advantage of Kubuntu (much superior).  Now, Boinc client loads at
start time, then quits suddenly.  Removing all boinc packages and
reinstalling made no difference. Manager runs ok, but no communication
with the client.
