Thanks!  This matches my experience with most transitions.  :-)
Did you also change boost-defaults to 1.53 for this effort?

So the next step is to see if there are clusters of errors.  For example: I 
took a look at a few bulid logs and saw one instance where it fails because of 
linking to "-lboostfoo-mt", which I have removed.  I'd appreciate knowing if 
that is a handful of cases or dozens.  I'd prefer to remove the compatibilty 
symlinks and have the packages link with simply "-lboostfoo", but if there's 
too many I could put the compatibilty links back in.

Let me know what you find.
