Hi,

The proposed patch for the power applet makes it talk directly with upower. It's
dependant on the upower version (i.e. it will not work with an older upower) and
it doesn't fix the Battery Status indicator in the cinnamon settings window.

The real root cause lies in cinnamon-settings-daemon.  After spending many many
hours on this, I was able to create a patch that fixes the behavior both for
the applet and the settings window.

I'll be uploading the fixed package either later today or tomorrow.
