Out of curiosity, can you paste "dmsetup table" for good and wrong
device mapping?

I cannot imagine the situation where it decrypts ext signature correctly
if mode changed.

(The only possibility is using null IV vs Plain IV, where first sector gets the same IV
but others differs but this is not the case here).
