I think this is also related to the knoppix 5 cupsys forum thread on 
knoppix.net, people are describing the same problems:

I'm running debian, and I can't print.
When I point firefox or konqueror at http://localhost:631, I get 
this(attached), which does not render as a webpage, instead it looks like 
html source, with no clickable links.

I can circumvent that by going to 
http://localhost:631/admin
which does load and render.

I've got an hp4050.  I set that up normally, by adding a printer; the 
following is pasted from http://localhost:631/printers/


hp4050
Description: hp4050
Location: Living room
Make and Model: HP LaserJet 4050 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc3
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: ipp://192.168.0.100/ipp/

However, when I try to print a test page, I get the following error:
http://localhost:631/printers/hp4050?op=print-test-page
Unsupported format 'application/postscript'!

After installing cups-1.3svn-r5805 it still doesn't work:
